Are Pets Safe From Corona Virus?

There have been a lot of reports from around the world of pets being infected with SARS-CoV-2, which doesn't necessarily mean that pets are sources of infection. As a result of close contact with people with COVID-19, few pets have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

Although dogs, pigs, chickens, and ducks do not show potential for serving as animal models of human infection, animals like hamsters, ferrets, cats do. A definite host has not been identified, therefore, the primary mode of transmission of COVID-19 in humans is person-to-person.

There are currently no reported cases of people catching the coronavirus from animals.

According to the World Health Organization, “based on current evidence, human to human transmission remains the main driver” of the COVID-19 pandemic, but that “further evidence is needed to understand if animals and pets can spread the disease.”

Also The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that  " there is no evidence pets can spread COVID-19 to people"

It is very unlikely that your pets could pass the virus to you. And if at all they are infected, its possible they got it from you.

If you get the COVID-19, the CDC recommends that you isolate yourself from other people and your pets, continue to wash your hands and try as much as possible not to touch your face.
