5 Ways To Protect Your Mental Health During The Pandemic
It is no longer news that the corona virus has affected most of the countries of the world and it is definitely normal to feel like you're loosing it once in a while. In fact, one can almost say that if you don't feel that way, you might want to check yourself.
1. Maintaining relationship with friends
No doubt, the pandemic has made it feel like most of our friends don't care; but the thing is everyone is trying their best to somehow,in some way try to fix their mental life. The only problem is the approach. The best way to stay sane is really contacting friends and engage in virtual hanging out. There are various means through which you can hang out with friends and chat and laugh and reflect on past memories even during quarantine;I mean come on, the internet has made it super easy.
An hour or two with different friends every time you feel comfortable,preferably an agreed time really helps reduce the pressure the whole quarantine situation imposes. just that little time of not worrying could save you a lot. Almost everyday, I see a lot of videos of friends dressing up, lighting candles and having fun. It might sound silly but I tell you, it really helps. If you feel like you're about to go crazy perhaps after seeing the news and the massive increase in victims, pick up your phone and call a friend; talk about stuff that are definitely not related to the pandemic, it helps me clear my head and I'm pretty sure it would work for you as well.
2. Do some exercise
Exercise has a positive impact on anxiety, depression and more. Therefore, it is quite a good way to help your mental health during this difficult time. You don't have to be a fitness genius to benefit from exercise. According to research, moderate amounts of exercise is enough to do the magic. The benefit of exercise includes higher self esteem, better sleep, more energy, sharper memory and thinking, strong resilience and more. Simple exercises that can help your mental health includes:
- walking
- squats
- lunges
- push ups
- abdominal crunches
- bent-over-row
- jumping jacks
- squat jumps
3. Read a book
If you don't know how to read, I think this is the best time to take some lessons. Over the years, doctors, scientists, and researchers have confirmed that reading is a stress-reducing activity. It helps in lowering your heart rate and blood pressure as well as improving memories and increasing brain power. Start with the simplest book; that's the key. I read the Olympus series and the Percy Jackson series a long time ago and I really wanted to read it all over but i didn't find the time until now. These books are amazing although it might not be the kind of books you like,well choose an equally amazing book and get yourself busy with it.
4. Netflix and other movie sites

It is not impossible to stay away from the news but don't let the news mess with your head. The news we see isn't always friendly especially during this period and one way of dealing with the news is having a positive mind; believe that everything is going to be fine soon. Do not forget to do this while taking precautions, hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Also make sure that your source of news is legit because there's a lot of fake news going about which does more harm than good to your health. Watch the news, stay safe, stay positive and disregard fake news;that should do it.
