Why Do The Feet Hurt When We Stand In A Single Spot For Too Long?

You went into a shopping mall, got your stuff and finally wanted to pay. And there, a queue so long you would presume a school bus, awaits you.

The same thing happens to us when it comes to getting groceries from the grocery store, or trying to get a ticket to board a train.
All of us have gone through the situation of having to stand for an extended period. But a more significant number of us have wondered why it hurts. No doubt, we must have noticed that even at walking around for the same period of time, we barely get any aching in the muscles in our legs.

Why Standing In One Spot Hurts Your Feet

Being idle in just a spot is an unbearable activity. You might decide to stand still in one place just to take a quick leg-rest, but the truth is that your legs aren't resting. Even at the mere look of it, we should know our legs are supporting our body weight at that moment, and sometimes we switch the entire weight to one leg, and then later to the other (which tends to reduce the pain). But when they don't seem to be relieved of duty, even for a small amount of time, the pain hits you.

When standing for too long, either leg gets no relief. Standing still for too long puts the entire load and weight of the body directly on the legs, making them weak when there appears to be no relief.
The muscles in the calves of our legs tend to prevent us from swaying and falling when we are standing, thereby keeping you upright. Also, these muscles get assistance and help from the core muscles, which keep the gait stable, making the process of walking less painful than standing still for too long.
In other words, we don't get the pain when we walk because of the break/rest our legs receive when shifting the body weight. Unlike standing still for too long, walking provides a means of rest for the legs with every step, allowing the regain of energy.
