Why Are Most Ceilings Painted White?

Now, this is one thing I'm sure we've have seen. Not just seen, but had its presence stuck to us for like forever. Right from the past, house owners have always gotten the same impression of having their ceilings painted white, without most of them even asking why.
When we are about to sleep, we still can't resist that urge to look at our ceiling, not just to give it a good thought, but to keep our minds at bay that we are definitely under a roof.

A ceiling is an overhead interior surface that covers the upper regions of a room. Most common ceilings we use are usually made of plaster and plasterboards, metals, and tiles, which then form wooden boards that function as ceilings.

Why Most Ceilings Are Painted White

No doubt we would have noticed that most of the ceilings we come across are in the colour white. The truth is white helps in brightening the entire room and making it appear higher and spacious.

Getting a dark and dull colour like black on your entire ceiling would literally take away the brightness of the room, its ventilation, and most of all, make the ceiling look closer than normal.
Also, white serves as a heat absorber. The heat coming from the sun can get absorbed by the white colour of the ceiling, leaving the room with a chilly and moderate temperature.
You would agree with me that not all houses have white ceilings, old ones mostly.

Why Do Old Houses Have High Ceilings?
In movies, we must have seen old houses with extremely high ceilings and windows aligned with very long curtains. Not just in movies, but also in reality, in which many of us have seen.
Unlike modern-day houses equipped with high-level air conditioners that wouldn't break a sweat by keeping you chilled on hot days, old houses didn't get that chance.

But for them to have survived under high temperate conditions, their ceilings had to be built to high levels. This alone allowed the inflow of air and boosted the rate of indoor lighting.
Stay tuned.
