Top 10 Upcoming Inventions That Will Blow Your Mind
1. Active Contact Lenses
Working like high-resolution screen right on your eyeball, it can function as a TV, phone and clock display. You would easily be able to watch movies and read even with your eyes closed. This is undoubtedly one invention the cinemas wouldn’t want to come to light.
2. Driverless Cars
This one has been in the works for decades. Google scientists and engineers have been able to develop autonomous vehicles that use artificial intelligence software and Google maps to navigate. Very soon we would have cars capable of driving themselves safely through the busiest of highways.
Tests in Nevada, Florida, and California have already begun, and Google awaits federal and states regulatory approval to engage in more extensive tests.
Pretty soon, our Uber driver would be an invisible AI with zero chance of drunk driving. Pretty cool.
3. Dream Sharing
This one is a bit creepy but no less awesome. In about two decades, pillows possessing conducting fires will be able to monitor electrical activity from the brain. What this means is that they will be capable of telling what someone is dreaming about.
Even more amazing is the possibility of two separate dreamers sharing the same dream. Dreamer A could steer Dreamer B's dream in the same direction as theirs so that they could effectively share a dream. And yes, they may even be able to interact with it.
4. Video Tattoos
People with ordinary tattoos would be wishing they’d waited a while by the time these babies hit the market. It’s electronic displays printed on thin plastic membranes, which can turn your entire forearm, chest (or any weird location on your body you might think of) into a computer display.
There will also be electronic makeup which will most likely be a hit with the ladies. You can just wipe it over your face then touch it and voila! It becomes a preset makeup or one you edited on a video mirror. People can use it to change their appearance several times in a day without having to go through the hassle of cleaning and reapplying.
5. Jetpacks
Fans of the James Bond movies or the Grand Theft Auto and Gangster game series would no doubt be familiar with the exhilarating Jetpack. Well, it seems our childhood dreams might very well be made a reality in the near future.
In New-Zealand, manned test flights have already begun over water and land (source: Oremus).
6. Live Androids
Robotics technology is moving on to the next level. These Androids are a lot like those in the popular sci-fi movie Terminator. Not to worry though, none of that murderous rampage nonsense… I think.
In two decades robots might possess polymer gel muscles and silicone covering which would make them largely human-like. They can mix easily with humans as our loyal servants, colleagues, guards or companions. And despite the fact that they would be pretty smart, there’s absolutely no chance of a robotic uprising… theoretically speaking.
7. Humans on Mars
In August 2012, the Curiosity space rover, an unmanned project, landed on Mars and was the first big step NASA needed to towards getting manned ships on Mars. Curiosity did well to collect scientific samples and study the planet’s environment (even sparing time for a selfie or two).
Sending a rover to Mars is way easier than sending astronauts there seeing that a lot of factors have to be considered such as exposure to radiation and microgravity issues. All the same, America’s beloved former president Barrack Obama promised in 2010 that he had set a goal of launching a manned mission to Mars sometime in the 2030s. No doubt other countries involved in the Space Race would be looking to beat the USA to this feat. Well, our fingers are crossed as we await a breakthrough.
8. Atlantis
Between the 50s and 60s, Jacques Cousteau‘s Project and United States Navy’s Sealab proved that humans could live and work underwater. The test subjects seemed to do just fine for extended periods underwater compartments.
This idea will surely become more popular in a few years. There is one problem though. Living underwater is not a very cheap way of life and then again, should you consider it critically, why the hell would we want to live underwater?!
Perhaps the most popular cliché when it comes to futuristic sci-fi movies and books. To be honest, this achievement is still a long way off, but not as long as you might think.
Researchers in France recently created a skateboard that can levitate a few inches off the ground using superconductor technology (Source Smalley). This project is still in need of some improvements, but it’s a step towards realizing our dream of picking updates directly from our bedroom window, or am I the only one with this particular fantasy?
This one has endless possibilities. Your very own exoskeleton suit with polymer gel muscles that can be five times stronger than normal ones. In other words, this is clothing that gives superhuman strength.
This invention is probably too expensive to make today but not in the future. It will most likely contain built-in reactive armor to make the wearer bulletproof. In all honesty, it is the closest we can get to transform into superheroes. Not precisely Tony Stark level, but close enough.
Stay tuned.
