Why Do Cockroaches Die On Their Backs?

Hey folks!

No doubt you all have seen dead cockroaches on their backs. The question is ,  is it all that common to all cockroaches or is it mere coincidence. Here's a quick assignment, spot a cockroach that's about to die and you'll be clever enough to notice that it falls on its back before, you know...saying its  last prayer which goes like 'hey human dude, hope you're happy that I'm leaving your world, well don't be, my kinds will avenge me'. Well not necessarily like that.

Cockroaches Versus Wild Versus Household.

Like I said earlier, when cockroaches die on their backs, they find it difficult to get up, well in households that have tiled and smooth floors. But in the wild, you find it difficult to find cockroaches on their backs-dead. Why? This is because, various objects help them turn back to a normal position. Twigs, leaves, fallen branches, stones. All these are present in the wild and absent in normal households. I repeat, normal households.
Okay back to the non-crazy stuff. Obviously, cockroaches that die on their backs are victims of insecticides. Insecticides have effect on their nervous system by causing muscular spasm and when this happens, they tumble and fall on their backs. When on their backs, they find it difficult to get up again and probably die in a better position.

Cockroaches Versus Old Age.

Poor cockroaches. When they become old, their muscles become weak. Besides, they have long legs therefore a high center of gravity.
As they age, gravity cracks an evil laugh and pulls them towards the ground and because of their extremely weak muscles, they fall on their backs and find it difficult to get up again.
Although cockroaches age, but they are still pretty smart. They might play dead for a little why and pray a silent prayer; let this person use a broom or something. And then, it comes to pass, you might use a broom or something else in an attempt to clear the roach away but it smiles at you, grabs the opportunity which is the broom literally and runs for it. They might possibly shake their butt and tell you thanks but your mouth is still wide open to say "you're welcome" or you might probably be screaming and running-girls, am I right. Just kidding.

Cockroaches Versus Insecticides.

It just got interesting. Insecticides are organophosphate nerve poisons. They stimulate cholinesterase which breaks down Acetylcholine (Ach), which happens to be a neurotransmitter in cockroaches. The break down curses the Ach to be in excess and then the cockroaches develop muscular weakness.
Stay tuned.
